The DII project is contracted to supply both hardware and software infrastructure solutions to support the MoD transition to a common base solution, based on Windows 2003 server and UAD products, whilst ensuring ongoing connection and support to "legacy" systems and the ultimate transfer of such into the DII solution. This is a multi-phased operation involving the development of many new solutions and the re-implementation of existing products in the DII environment.

The vision for DII(F), is for a managed infrastructure service that:
Enables collaborative planning and working across Defence
Allows the exchange and sharing of electronic information across the whole of Defence
Provides secure access to information, anywhere at any time
Provides electronic document and records management
Enables any corporate, mission, business or local application to be provided to any authorised user

Provides standard interfaces to external systems where there are many duplicate connections at present
Provides every user with a Quality of Service that is appropriate to that user's operational or business requirements.

ATLAS

The ATLAS Consortium was appointed as the Delivery Partner for DII in March 2005 and comprises HP ES (prime contractor for ATLAS), Fujitsu, General Dynamics, EADS Defence & Security Systems and Logica.
The consortium is working with the DII Gp to manage the overall DII program and its risk sharing components; the legacy system transition; the site migration process and the design, roll out and service management of DII IT Infrastructure (including training services).

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Participates with project teams in the implementation of new/upgraded designs.
• Works closely with the Deployed Engineering Manager to ensure timely delivery of product.
• Works closely with the Integration Manager to schedule testing and to ensure tracking and timely reporting
• Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends through resources such as internal systems, periodicals and websites
• Understands and adheres to standards and procedures relating to change management, performance management and security.
• Looks for ways to improve the Security implementation

Qualifications

Essential Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in the Technical Security /Security Engineering disciplines
• Experience and understanding of JSP 440 and other MoD Sy publications
• Experience and understanding of DIAN 15
• Experience of Virus and Content checking engines
• Self motivated, able to work without close supervision
• MS Windows Server 2003 installation, configuration and administration
• Ability to produce technical documentation
• Excellent written and oral skills

Exposure to:

• Server build automation
• Virtualisation techniques

Desirable Skills:

• Experience of working on MoD projects, preferably those in support of deployed operations
• Experience of vulnerability testing, analysis and tooling
• Experience of MS Office including MS Project
• Ability to produce Unit Test Cases
• Work within a CM structure
• Enthusiastic and flexible attitude to work

Consulting and industry:
• Preferable experience of consultancy
• Government and/or Defence experience definite plus
