The BlackBerry Developer Relations team is responsible for growing the BlackBerry developer community and managing technical relationships with companies that are developing applications for BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook. The Application Development Consultant will act as a subject matter expert on software development for either HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript or Adobe Flash, Flex, and AIR (the web team is seeking expertise in both HTML5 and AIR). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with companies developing all sorts of applications for BlackBerry products, including games, music and video, news, sports, and business.
The role requires both business and technical acumen, with an emphasis on the technical background. This position is ideally suited to a candidate with a software development background who has an interest in being in a partner-facing role and learning more about the wireless application market. The Developer Relations team is extremely dynamic, offering a perfect opportunity for an engineer or software developer to not only get exposure to business development processes, but also influence internal product direction and have a platform upon which to become a fixture in existing development communities, all while still staying true to their technical roots. Strong communication skills and a personable nature are necessities for the role. The ideal candidate should also be able to work independently with a willingness to seek out new opportunities and implement new ideas.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent
Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, with 2+ years of development experience using these technologies.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proven analytic and problem solving skills
Stays current with trends in web development
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
Proficiency in Flash 10 or higher, Flex 4 or higher, ActionScript 3, AIR 2.5 or higher, with 2+ years of development experience in these languages
Experience with web application development using any community frameworks such as jQuery, Sencha or Dojo considered a bonus
Experience in web design featuring media or content management
Any experience with OpenGL or 3D graphics an asset; Molehill or WebGL a bonus
Previous experience in mobile application development for any platform considered an asset
